Black Tupelo' has an irregular pyramidal to spreading habit with densely set branches. Growth rate is slow to medium.The bark is dark gray, brown, brown-black to almost black at times. The bark has irregular ridges giving it a block-like or alligator hide appearance. The leaves are a lustrous dark green that will mature to yellow, orange and scarlet in autumn. Excellent in naturalized areas or as a specimen tree.
